Hi Greg,
My settings in the preview tab of the Curvemeister Settings have the Shadow target set at RGB (0,0,0,) and the Highlight Target set at RGB (255,255,255). I noticed on a screenshot of Mike's or your Curvemeister that the settings to be not pure black and white. Is that a matter of choice or is it a good thing to set the targets a bit less? See my screenshot.

Question about settings
Setting the highlight to 250 or 245 and the shadow to 5 or 10 is a matter of choice.
It prevents you from Clipping the brightest highlights and darkest shadows. No matter what you set on the curve your shadow and highlight will never be 100%. It helps you to preserve details in print. You might not even see it on the monitor.
