Today my wife asked me to take a photo of the rear of our garden. The converted RAW file was very contrasty, so, in view of this week's assignments, I used an inverted L-channel as a contrast mask, adjusted colour in CM, and then sharpened. (Unfortunately, the reduction in file size reduces the flower detail quite a bit, but you can get the idea.)

Tanja, not HDR, entirely the effect of the contrast mask. A JPEG of the minimally adjusted RAW file is attached.
Greg -- it certainly has. I'd go further and say it's created the tool box (but it's also made me understand that the box itself gets bigger and bigger so that it's never nearly filled.)

Ahh, contrast mask! You are addicted like me, it seems ;)
I used it on nearly every picture of this week and playing with the channels (overdone it at the pilot-picture ;) ).
Is this the "bigger hammer"-version with a layer, which darkend up? I tip on "no".
Definitely a hdr-look-alike and I really like it.

Hello all--
When my wife and I were in Devon last fall, I took a photo of a 13th century church. It was mid-day, and the bright sun overhead was very harsh, and seemed to drain the colours from everything. Before taking Greg's CM course I tried hard to restore the colour, at least as it looked in my mind's eye, without much success. So, I had another try in CM over the past last two days and this is what I came up with. (One thing I may change in the future: decrease the saturation of what are in the enhanced version reddish orange patches in the church -- they shouldn't be so conspicuous I think.)

huh, hard to say, which one is better. I like the contrast and the colors of the church from the first one, and the lighter version of the plants in the second one. Is there maybe a possibility to bring these points together in one picture, without having two pictures painted together?
Wonderful church! I agree with the reddish orange. Too "light" for an old church like this in my feeling.
