Thanks Greg, Greg, and Lee

I will rework the issues later today.

I noticed that the merry go round had specular highlights I ignored. It had multiple shadow areas.  I tried the CM wizard skin tones on the people.  Not a good idea as they were in the shadow and not important.  I lazily did not set a proper neutral.

Lee, re setting ACR.  You were right.  This is a newish computer, I had to set those defaults and explorer and bridge and windwos.  Now things are right.  Thanks.  I had explorer set to CS 5 (32) and CM installed as 64.  Who took my curvemeister?  That was not long to fix.

I reset to 0,0,0 and light to the right.

I always duplicate a layer and adjust the duplicate layer.  I had trouble using the smart filter mode.  It did not work.  Oh well.  Also when using the wizard, when you lighten the curve goes weird.  I post a screen shot later.  No big deal, as I do not use the wizard.

Also, besides the numbers and the look, I tend to _way_ over saturate the colors in LAB to see casts.

Now for a few images.  I did all the adjustments from scratch.

Duck- I know I should have used the ankle, but I found a spot on the rock that seemed to work.

Balls.

Merry go round.  I hope it is better.  I went neutral shopping on the horses neck.

Kites.  Wow I looked at the red channel.  Those shirts are blue.  I picked a skin color on the neck, but without some sort of selection / painting ....

Ellis.  (after posting, I reposted with apply image for contrast and moved into LAB to lighten)

Flowers-  I messed around with HSB for the first, but returned to LAB.  (after I posted I noticed that I overdid the center of the flower and blew it out)

Finally, Statue. is rather noisy.  I did some apply image for luminosity.

I replaced merry go round with a brighter version.

Hi Steve,

The Merry-go-round image looks much better ;)

When I first tried to work with CurveMeister as a Smart Filter I had the same trouble that you are having - luckily Greg helped me out; however, he's asleep right now so I'll pass on the advice that he gave me:

  • Having duplicated your Background layer, convert the layer into a Smart Object (

Filter > Convert for Smart Filters).
  • Open CurveMeister, and make your adjustments.

  • Before clicking the 'Apply' button to return to Photoshop you need to click on the scroll next to the Curves palette (shot1.jpg)

  • When the scroll looks like shot2.jpg, click 'Apply'

  • When you double-click the 'CurveMeister' entry in Photoshop's Layers panel (to re-edit your curves), CurveMeister should remember your previous curve points. If it doesn't, then make sure that the scroll is still ticked (like shot2.jpg).

    I hope that helps,
    Lee :)

Lee, once again thanks.  I will try it.  Two other annoyances (later)

Art, thanks.  Shadow highlights was a good idea.

Is it preferable to post a batch or one at a time?

Yes, let's split these up into separate posts.  It makes the question answer process much cleaner...
I split Art's post off from the rest.
