Hi Greg,
It's nice to see another correction of this image :)
I've been working with your curves (thanks for attaching them, it's always a real help), and presume that you did your first pass in RGB (to set the white point)... I really like the idea of using the bird droppings. I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years! I also like the drop on the highlight endpoint in Lab - knocking down the brightness of the pavement really helps the image.

Interesting take on this but.....
The shadows are still blue... See hue clocks...your correction also does not address the skin tones in the background.
