I agree with Julie. This was very difficult. I didn't do anything additional in Photoshop.
I've asked the question about how to determine where to put the internal points. I pretty much guessed at where to put them. Is there a scientific method??

Actually Joann you are pretty close...The Curve is too close to the shadow sides.  If you move the middle of the curve "up" Closer to center... a bit it will get a lot better...
BTW this is a really good image for LAB....try it there as well.
