Greetings Everyone!

This first week is open to all Curvemeister forum members. We post a few images and allow everyone to take a crack at them. The Idea is to show new users what is possible, to show old users new techniques, and to generate discussion and input from across all of the user base.

Our goals this week are to introduce concepts and dialog to help the new users get their feet wet, to make this image look as good as possible, and to explain in simple terms what you have done to the image so all can learn a few things.

The attached image is the opening shot so to speak. Make it look as good as possible.

Simple changes in RGB.I went with the 218 green value because I didn't want a kitchen appliance white for the feathers.The neck still has a bit of a cast but since I don't know the real colors I can live with it.A touch of sharpening for the starburst and feathers.GregM

Hi Greg...
I could live with it except for the magenta beak...
I like the crown feathers...the bird is close enough to neutral to call it that...

Remember everything is fair this week...

BTW if you don't know it yet your install of CM includes this handy little hue clock it's on the windows menu under curvemeister.com It shows the screen values for an image as a hue clock. The longer the hand the stronger the color

Greg,do you get the same magenta cast if you apply the acv file to your image?GregM
I downloaded your screenshot and when I read hue in HSB I get average 353 degrees on the neck.
When I do the same to my corrected image I get 5 ???(hope you've got some vacation pics)

BTW this is a vacation shot from my visit to San Francisco. Mike and I took in the zoo.
We have some plans for this little guy...

Everyone,
It is possible to save your curve file and send it along. It sometimes helps myself and others to see what you have done with the image.
If you click the save button in CM you can save the ACV file to the desktop. If you want to load Greg's ACV file, right click on the link and save it to the desktop. Then open the original image and open CM. Click the load button and navigate to the ACV file you saved on the desktop. Click OK and the curves will load and you can see what Greg has done with the image.

Greg,
well here goes. I think I did everything right for posting this image but I am not confident that it will actually appear at your end. I used the wizard to do this in lab and increased the saturation a bit. I like my birds a bit bright.

Looks very good, Julie! I like the way the red and gold colors stand out.

BTW - to others who may be wondering how their images will measure up. gremurphoto is here because of his excellent previous contributions. Don't be discouraged if your images don't look like his at first - think of them as something we hope you could achieve later, after taking the class. Patience is key.

Greg,

Here's my attempt to upload my first version of the crested crane.

I started with the Curvemeister Wizard and and then experimented with a variety of actions including adjustment of contrast, brightness, hue, and curves. Since the center of focus is the crane, I tried to bring it out into the light to have it stand out from a muted background.
