This is going to be hard to explain, but I'll give it a shot.

When I first downloaded the new version, I opened the mask icon on the toolbar. It opened into the thumbnails. When I selected/clicked on one of the masks, it turned white. If i selected another, that also turned white. I tried to select the "none" button on the toolbar, which turned orange, but didn't resolve the white thumbnail issue. I tried backing out by selecting the channels, singly and "all" but was stuck with the white thumbnails I tried "reset". That didn't work, so I finally closed CM and reopened.

Same thing happened, but I closed right away this time.

When I reopened, I selected a different mask first--Saturation. It opened in my window. I tried others, and they all opened! I went to channels, they all worked. "All" worked. "Non" worked, and I could reselect channels. Everything worked fine. I closed CM and reopened. Still worked fine.

Started thinking about how I was going to report this. I found one thing that was happening consistently: when I pressed the "none" button that I have on my toolbar, and then select "all" from the toolbar, nothing happens, until I press "none" again. Then I see the composite selection in my window.

I closed and reopened, and tried the masks again, and the earlier behavior happened again; when I selected a mask, it turned to a white rectangle and I couldn't get out of the thumbnails. This time, I took a picture.

Hopefully, I will be able to spend a good chunk of time on the cool new stuff on Tuesday. Aside from the problems above, I really like the way the mask selections work.

I just closed and reopened, and it's all good again...

Thanks, Gloria.  This one is a doozey - I can get the behavior to happen, which usually means I can fix it pretty quickly.

Who needs the "none" button anyway, if the mask button toggles??? Thanks for that!

The None button resets the mask itself.  The mask button is like the channel view buttons, so toggling the mask button changes the view but not the current mask.

I'll think of ways to make this clearer in the user interface.

I forgot that the mask button also has the duty of actually showing the selected mask. :) I was kind of caught up in having all the buttons work without crashing--very nicely done!

I really like the toggle button. I would like it even more if it toggled to three views--composite, mask, and mask thumbnails that include a 'no mask' thumbnail. But I guess that would present a problem when there is no mask selected...so I'll just rearrange my toolbar!

One way would be to have a separate Mask Carte window that you can leave in place.

well, a mask carte window is just too small to really appreciate those masks, I think. But I can deal with it.

Perhaps a reset button next to the mask on the toolbar? The reason being, if I set up a mask, blur it, invert it, and Hilite it, there are a lot of buttons lit up. They don't all return to default when 'no mask" is selected from the dropdown.  A reset button is nice and consistent, like the curve window... and then I could toggle to the thumbnails again. I seriously think that thumbnail view is going to blow people away!

Now you can tell me to drop it and move along :)

Oh, and I forgot--when I mouse over the masks in the thumbnail view, they briefly show an orange outline, but it goes away immediately. Should it stay while making a selection?

Not at all, Gloria.  These are great ideas.

So instead of "No Mask" have a "Reset Mask" that clears everything and shows the Mask Carte.  I think that can be done.

Now that you mention it, there is a problem with the orange rectangles going away.
