Well it is a good idea...the greyscale...but.....
You still might have a few problems here.....This one has some mixed lighting issues and while you have given it a really good start please see the screen shots attached...
I would also look at the highlights and verify the detail is all in there....

Thanks for the criticism. I gave this image a second attempt. I used the dial to verify that the two middle gray blocks were, indeed, neutral. As far as highlight detail is concerned, I moved my highlight pint to the skull's cheek and really reduced the amount of area that was appearing as clipped highlights. I don't believe that there is any more highlight detail to rescue form this image.
