I did this picture in lab.I used the wizard for highlights and shadows.I then since we were introduced to the inverted s,tried the s curve?
I then used the color curve graphs and then finally the slider.

From your image, try to open the mid-tones a bit.  You are on the right track but the image could be a bit brighter.  Grab the middle of the curve and pull it down slightly and see if the middle tones look any better to you.
