Ex 5  I have given up on Ex 5 for the moment as I am having difficulty keeping the yellow car from brightening up also.

Ex 6  Still working with it but have a question regarding the histogram as shown in the class text. In LAB when I open the lightness mask the histogram just about duplicates the lightness channel. In the class text the lightness mask histogram rises to the right. Whenever I adjust a mask the histogram never changes. Why the difference?

I had not noticed this difference in the histograms until you pointed it out - more research is needed, as they say.

The histogram generally will not change during a curvemeister operation, with the exception of the RGB and wgCMYK master curves.  These change dynamically because they take their input from the other, per-channel curves.
