Mike, on the first page you note that "setting RGB Shadow 0 and Highlight 255". I have seen many times where authors (as ex Kelby) have used the value of 10 and 245 in order to protect the ends. How valid is that?  and why would they do that? Can you explain?

Hi Joe,

The 10 and 245 values are perfectly reasonable numbers, and I've often considered making them the curvemeister defaults, instead of the current values of 0 and 255.

The reason I haven't done this is that I think 0 and 255 are good defaults for monitor use, for  I see many more images that have inadequate contrast, and I just couldnt bring myself to throw away 10 points of contrast for images that are going to be displayed on a monitor.

That said, I'm still painfully on the fence about the idea of changing the defaults.  As a matter of fact, I'm going to suggest to the class that everyone change their defaults, and see if they like the results better.
