I couldn't get more lightness or color out of this image. The more I tried the worse it got.

Can you give me more information? What colors came out in the image for you??
Was it the greens or the yellows?
When you tried to adjus the separate colors did you set some control points on the curve to keep the opposite color in control?? If you do that you will not get the wild color shifts. Initially you will but when you pull the curve back under control this will work out...
