These are a couple of images that need help. The river image needs lots of detail help in the sky. The sunrise image needs brightening in the foreground.
Lets see what you can do with them.
Thanks Joe S

I have been working on this image of and on since 2005. The image was taken just before sundown. The foreground was dark and the distant hills had a bit of sunlight. There is a thin wisp of clouds just above the horizon that is difficult to maintain. This is about the best I have been able to do.

Hey Joe...
2 years is a long time to look for an answer. I'm glad you came to the right place.. ;D
I used only CM to get the results but...I used the masking features and some of the other tools we will be discussing in the coming weeks.
Basic workflow for me was:
Open in Lab, and create a mask from the Blue channel. You will be getting much more info on this later. Including reasons why you choose any given channel. I used the mask in CM to adjust only the horizon areas of the image and when i was pretty satisfied with it I closed out of CM.
I then opened it again in LAB. This time I adjusted the blue cast out of the distance using a technique called "Pinning the curve" This allows you to Pin the yellow side of the "B" curve while adjusting the blue side. No lost control due to the curve flexing. If you right click on a portion of the curve grid and selct pin grid you will get a sub menu that allows for upper right, lower left or all.
Next was the A channel same drill. Pin the red and adjust the green.
Lastly I adjusted the L curve as shown in the print screen. I think i might have a few too many control points but over all I like the results.
