The kite picture is a challenge to get the color in as well as keeping some color in the sky and also bring out the faces.

I find that putting a neutral on one of the jerseys does a lot as far as bringing out the colors, which are washed in blue from being lit by the sky.  Once again, doing this in RGB mode will probably give a better result, since the brightly lit parts of the shirts are already white.  Lab will tend to turn those areas yellow, but RGB will not.
