Walt,
Try the Shadow Highlight drill on the image and then use the saturation slider to pump up the color a bit. Don't worry too much about the colors we want them to go a bit wild. Focus on the type and making it stand out by adjusting the L curve in lab. Upping the contrast is the key to this one...you do that with points on the curve just don't over do it too much...try to separate the points vertically. if the points get to close together on the horizontal plane the image will get very flat.
