Greg,
I am glad you learned something from this..I was concerned that many would not even try it...
I hope more do...There is a lot in there but the journey is well worth it.

Final thoughts on the picture of Dan with the squirrel.

Dan's hair is Brown....That might help a bit..I would choose the nuts on the feeder as a black. 
The white is a good choice as is the neutral.  The vertical blind in the back is more of a cream color not so red.

You have done a great job trying this one...How did you do on the Hat picture??

Odd results here.At8,8,8 there's a yellow cast to skin.At8,7,8 black is a dot but there's still a yellow cast.Original pic much better.Have to watch video again

I know when I did this for the video the skin just worked out correct.  I made no changes to the skin.
You might check you sample size and make sure you are not getting too much color information in the samples.

I set my sample size in the configuration menu to be 3X3 pixels.

I was averaging out highlights and shadows as well as neutrals.Getting some odd results.

Ahhhh...

Just the neutral is average...
Otherwise you get odd color shifts for sure...

I used BTN to get the basic image,then a pass(slope) of saturation in HSB.Never got that much color before.I can get an identical image with a color boost in Lab.

Its' similar to Zog's of 7/29 but the water's a diferent color.
