Hi,
When working with curves in Photoshop, I can Control-click the image to add a point to the composite curve, and Shift + Control-click the image to set a point to the channel curves. Does CM have similar keyboard shortcuts?

In CM you can righ click on the image and choose "mark"  This will place a marker on the curve that you can adjust from there.  You can convert the mark to a pin or just click on it to set the point as a control point.

Shot 1 is the image and curve after a right click "mark"

Shot 2 is clicking on the mark to create a point.

When I set a mark, what I get on the curve is a worm (that is, a portion of the curve gets marked), not a point, like shown on your shot1.jpg. Is it because of some CM setting or the black point on shot1.jpg is actually a worm too, just a small one?

Check your setting for sample size.  Mine is set to 3X3.  That should shorten the worm you might still see one....

Aha! So, CM doesn't average colors of sampled pixels into one average color when setting a mark. Instead, it marks the range of sampled colors as a worm. Useful.

It is very useful especially when you get to contrast pinning.

being able to see the range of the effect is something that was odd at first but gets to be very helpful when you start to apply it to your image.  It helps to think in ranges... rather than points...
