During this class I will be doing at least 1 interactive session using Skype for voice and a screen sharing program called "Show My PC"
http://showmypc.com/

I am looking for feedback as to how many would be interested, how willing people are to use Skype and, topics you are interested in seeing more information about.

Because we have people from all over the world we would need to schedule the session(s) pretty tightly and some coordination of connections to Skype for the conference call need to be arranged before we actually attempt this.

Our current thoughts about this are:

1) Verify interest.
2) Ask people to download, install and configure Skype or another program capable of using the skype system to do the voice part of the session.
3) Schedule 1st session at least a week ahead of time for a Saturday.  We are looking at 10:00 AM Central time USA.  -6 GMT.
5) Sessions would be limited to 1 hour due to the limits of the free software version we would use. (We can create a second session and continue)
6) Topics would need to be addressed before hand so we can focus on what you all want to see.

I am also thinking of offering single sessions to single users for specific trouble shooting and technique walk through as needed.

I would enjoy hearing your thoughts on this.  I plan to add this as another wrench to the tool box for teaching and support of the CM program.

Greg

P.S. Mike may be able to attend as well.

I am looking at Dec 6th 2008 as the date for an interactive session.

Please let me know the following:

1) Are you interested?
2) What time zone are you located in.
3) what time of the day would work best?
4) What topics do you want to cover during the call?

Last session we had people from England call into the session and we ran it in the late afternoon their time...About 9:00 AM CST USA.  I am more than willing to be later in the day if that meets everyone's needs.

The final decision will be made Nov 30th so that people may plan for the time.
This session was well received last time and makes for a most interesting discussion during the call.

Sorry Greg.  I have been diverted for a few days.  I need to get back on the stick here.

(1)  I would be interested in an interactive class.  I am a little apprehensive about what all is involved in a Skype install though.
(2)  Pacific Standard Time  (GMT-8)
(3)  I can be pretty flexible on the time . . . but I am not getting up before 5am! :)
(4)  Right now I feel like I have learned disparate elements but I am having trouble figuring out the workflow from start to finish.  I need to understand better the various paths, and what decisions are made that should cause me to turn right rather than left.  Pretty vague I know, but the isolated techniques I am picking up on through the self-taught lessons.

I'll not make you get up at 5A...

Saturday is pretty open to me as well.  If I do not hear from anyone else we could make it just about any time you want.  I am in Central time so I would be 2 hours later than you.

We certainly can discuss work flow.  I have had lot's of questions about it in the past.  If you have any specific images you would like to tackle you can post them to this thread and I'll work on them before the weekend.

Hopefully if we set the time right Mike will join us.  He's not much of a 5AM guy either.
Let's see if anyone else is interested and if not... we can go for late morning time frame your time unless you have a better Idea.

The Skype install is mostly harmless...Just do the defaults.  The PC to PC features of Skype are free. After the call you can un-install if you like. The Show my PC program is also a free install and we get 1 hour blocks with that one...

The time is fine Greg.  Apart from downloading the software, don't I need some equipment -- a headset/microphone sort of thing?  I have never gone down the VOIP road before.

I will send you some images that you might want to fool around with.

A plug in Microphone should work just fine...Your sound card should have a pink jack for a plug in.  Or you can use a USB microphone.

If you have PC speakers you should be able to hear through that.
There is a testing mode for skype to help you configure it.

I guess I never even thought that would be an issue...My Bad....the things we assume these days....

Its a generational thing .... I have a lot of catching up to do.  I will go out and buy a USB microphone today.
