Here is my try on the yellow flower. Adjusted the picture twice in CM Lab mode, my favourite. In PSE applied some unsharp mask. Hope I do better this time than with the "Rocket".

You are doing just fine....It is my job to pick at the images a bit and push you to make them better...
for instance in the yellow flower you might want to reduce the contrast a bit. From your image I used a L curve as shown to bring back the texture in the petals of the yellow flower. If the image gets a bit desaturated you can use the saturation slider in LAB to make the color snappy again. The second image is your original zoomed in a bit...
