I didn't save the curves on these. Do you want them? On the bubbles I used the wizard.

I went back and did the example again...this time using the pipe as the neutral point. Totally different color than my first attempt.

Don't forget that Black and white can also be considered neutrals.  It is a sometimes risky move to use them but they should be neutral if they are truly black or truly white.  And Yes the second version of the ball is much better than the first.

I need not see the curves for the numbers drill.  I can tell you got the idea by the looks of the numbers...

JoAnn,you could try one more pass and use the shadow/hightlight control in photoshop.The darken highlights will add some shading to surface of the spheres(lighten shadows will add some underwater detail)You can get similar results marking,pinning, and shaping the lightness curve in Lab.GregM
