I did this in lab. I sharpened  as well. There is a sort of pinkish colour to parts of the newspaper but if I tried to get rid of it everything went a bit blue.

You can play with the B channel a bit to get rid of some of the color but the biggest thing you can do is move the highlight point a bit to remove some of the background shading...
