Changing the color of the dog

During the video, we are told to drag the bottom of the "a" curve to the center, then drag the top of the "a" curve to the center, once there we are told that we can then link the two ends and drag the line.  How do you link the two ends?  Every time I click on one end to activate it, the other end becomes deactivated.  I can only drag one end at a time, not both together.

Ctrl-Click the end points...that should link them.
