Hello.
I performed Example 1 in the RGB space. Moving the top white end inward greatly increased the photo. I was very surprised that moving the white end of the curve made such a huge improvement in the photo. I added two internal points and adjusted the curve to provide additional contrast.
Please give me your advice.
Off Topic - I have a questions regarding the CM interface. The ORB (circular "icon") at the top left corner of the CM interface rarely lets me select save, however, the save button at the lower right close to the curves windows always works. Why?

Try to open the deepest shadows just a bit more. In my screen shot I have a green arrow...try moving the curve at that point just a tiny bit..to the right. The deep shadows will open and you can control the tonality in the middle.
To answer your save question...you have to make a change to the image before you can save. The Menu button "save" will not be active until you make a change...

Hello.
I re-did this image basing it on the first try with a slight adjust to try to bring out the deepest shadows. I may have over did this adjustment non-the-less I am starting to gain an understanding of how adding additional points to a curve and adjust the curve will change the image.
Please give me your opinion on this second attempt.

Pretty well done...
You might want to look for some more contrast in the image but overall for RGB you did well. This one really benefits from LAB because of the strong colors you want to image in the scene...

Hello.
Since you stated that this image would benefit from Lab because of its strong colors I decided to give Lab a try even though the exercise did not call for it. I feel making this effort and having your comments will have an educational benefit. Your comments are very informative and in my opinion a very important aspect of this class.

David,
Since I cannot really recover the LAB image I'll tell you what you need to do to make your own recovery....see shot1
If you look just at the L channel information; remember that L holds only brightness data no color....
Does this look like a good Black and White Image of the scene?? The highlights are in real trouble...
The color is going to look much better if the tonality is in place...
