Hello.

I experimented with this image using both Lab and RGB.  I personally like the Lab adjustment better.  I used the metal frame as a neutral but did not see any definite Shadows (blacks) or Highlights (whites).  You provided information about finding a neutral when there is no obvious choice;  are there techniques for Shadows and Highlights?

Please give me your opinion.

Shadow and highlight can be found in a similar manner as the neutral.  You can use the threshold commands in Curvemeister to find them since they are not color dependent.  If you place a highlight point on the image and then click on the point and drag it around the threshold feature will kick in and you just need to eliminate all the dark areas in the image until the lighter mask color is almost completely covering the image.

Same for the Shadow...The thresholding feature will get you close regardless of the color.

The LAB correction certainly makes the colors of the fruit look better but the frame will always be dependent on the single neutral point you choose.  Overall the RGB looks better for color.  It really just needs a better shadow point.
