I just started with an image in RGB mode. I click the little mask icon on the toolbar and a carte of masks appears. I selected L. I now get a mask curve on my curves pane, which I fiddled with a bit. The mask icon on the toolbar is still highlighted. It's function has now changed. It no longer brings up the carte, instead it now acts as a toggle going between mask view and normal RGB view. I think the reset mask switch needs to be a bit more obvious, but so far so good.

I then switch mode to Lab. My mask curve has now disappeared! It's still not there if I switch back to RGB mode. The mask I was working on appears to have gone completely. Is that the intended operation? The mask icon doesn't bring up the mask carte again - it still toggles between what appears to be the original L channel mask (without my mask edits) and the normal image view.

I'm a bit puzzled. Would it make more sense to have a mask pane in the GUI when a mask is active? I'm not sure that mask curve should be in the curves pane. Mask function and controls seem a wholly different kettle of fish to me...

Yes, this is a bug.  The mask curve should stay there until you reset the mask.

Until this bug is fixed, you can get a reset version of the mask curve by clicking on the button for that mask again.
