Perhaps when one selects HiLite Mask, the view in the preview window should change to the composite channel, if it isn't there already. If the mask is showing in the preview window and you select Hilite mask, nothing happens. This could be confusing, especially if you are working on a black and white image, and also with a mask.

Or maybe HiLite mask just should be grayed out if the composite image isn't showing.

Or maybe there's a reason I haven't thought of for leaving it the way it is! :)

Hmmm - yes, there's no reason to have it show the mask at that point.  So, if it's showing the mask already, and you hilite the mask, I'lll send you back to the composite view, with the mask hilited.  I'm doing a new release, to fix the latest batch of problems.  With a little luck, this should be out there in less than an hour.
