Let me see if I can explain this clearly :)

I am in the wgCMYK channel. I have all five curve boxes showing. My view is "All" channels. When I scroll over the image, I see the movement of what I think you guys are calling the caterpillar up and down the curves . (except in the master curve)

If I select "mask" in the tool bar, click on the "red" of rgb, select "medium" in the Mask Blur, select "mask" in the options right above the image, I get a solid, wide black or blue (diagonal) line in the curve boxes come on and off as I move the cursor through the Image.

Furthermore, if I go back to Mask Blur and change to "none", and then go to Mask in the tool bar, and change back to none, and move my curser over the image, I get the same solid wide line in the curve box everywhere I move my cursor in the image, in all 4 curves boxes. It stays until I move the cursor over the right side of the screen, but returns when I move back into the image. Also remains when I change from "mask" to "All" in the options over the image. When I change to RGB and then back, everything returns to normal.
Whew.

Thanks for the complete explanation!  I should be able to recreate the problem from your description, which means I can fix it.

BTW - I did recreate at least one of your earlier 16 bit crashes.  Do please keep sending in crashes as they happen.
