Mask Alpha 1,2 and 3 buttons

The mask ribbon has Alpha 1, Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 buttons. These appear to map to the first 3 channels in the channels palette, which is pretty clunky.

Should these be replaced with a drop down menu that holds the correct list of available alpha channels, with correct names as per the channels palette?

Yes, it is clunky.  I implemented it this way initially because some of the controls, including toolbars, don't really lend themselves to changing dynamically.  It's possible I may ship this way, and leave the real solution to later.  Let me cogitate on this one.
