try http://www.askwoody.com/viewpatch.php

for status on the current updates that Microsoft provides you via Windows Update.

The entries are written in a very entertaining way, though the actual news of what each update really does may be less entertaning. ???

Well, the guy's an author, but what are his credentials?  His comment about .NET is curious, because I have several programs that require it to run.  I am a dummy who does use autoupdate, although I use it as auto-notification, not auto-install.  The update feature does allow that option.  I have installed most updates from Microsoft, and my system has been rock solid for the two years that I've had this box.

I do the same thing.  I install all the updates, and have not had problems.

OTOH, I was surprised at how many of the patches, even those labelled critical, are not particularly aimed at things I care about: MSIE 7 beta for example.
