OK, here's my new try. I really had a problem with getting the average on neutral or mid range to balance. My highlight and shadow all numbers the same but it took forever and many resets to get neutral the same. I did go back after applying RGB to Lab to add a little saturation.

The length of the hand is saturation.  The longer the hand the more saturated the color.  You might not want the goal to be short hands....

I think I've got the skin color going in the right direction, but how do I make the hue hand shorter? On the girl it's really short but on the men it is not.

For me the frame would be secondary to the fruit. But I understand what you are saying and at one point I did put the neutral on the frame and also a highlight but in the end I changed.<br />I guess there is no concrete solution. I don't know if I've done this right or not. I've put a lot of time in on this. At least I do understand what unlocking the pin means. So that's something. <br />Sometimes after turning off the skin pin and adjusting colors then turning the pin back on the photo became really red...

I can't get beyond pinning the animals face because I don't know what you mean by "sample palette"
